Position Overview

The Construction Manager oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of substation, transmission, and renewable energy construction projects. This role ensures that all work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and according to design specifications and quality standards. The Construction Manager serves as the primary field leader, coordinating between engineering teams, contractors, vendors, and clients to deliver successful utility and renewable energy infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage field construction activities for substation, BESS, and renewable energy projects across multiple locations.
  • Supervise and coordinate construction crews, subcontractors, and field supervisors, ensuring adherence to project schedules and safety requirements.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure accurate field implementation.
  • Oversee material deliveries, equipment installation, and site logistics, ensuring efficient resource use and minimal downtime.
  • Conduct daily and weekly site meetings to review progress, address issues, and align with project goals.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to resolve technical and field-related challenges.
  • Monitor and enforce quality control standards, ensuring compliance with NEEC, client, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain construction documentation, including reports, RFIs, redlines, and as-built drawings.
  • Support and enforce OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety protocols to maintain a zero-incident work environment.
  • Evaluate subcontractor performance and ensure all field activities align with contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate with utility representatives during inspections, energization, and commissioning phases.
  • Manage budget tracking, scheduling updates, and project closeout documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience managing construction projects in the utility, substation, or renewable energy sectors.
  • Strong understanding of high-voltage electrical systems, substation construction, and renewable integration (BESS, Solar, Wind).
  • Proven ability to lead field teams, subcontractors, and vendors effectively.
  • Excellent knowledge of project scheduling tools (Primavera, MS Project) and construction documentation practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with NESC, NEC, OSHA, and IEEE standards.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively to job sites nationwide.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience with EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) or utility- scale renewable projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or Procore for reviewing and managing construction drawings.
  • OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, and First Aid/CPR certifications preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple concurrent projects and field teams.
  • Ability to anticipate project risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies.

Work Environment

This is a field-based leadership position requiring regular travel to active construction sites across the U.S. The role involves outdoor work, high-voltage environments, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams. The Construction Manager ensures that NEEC’s safety, quality, and performance standards are upheld at every stage of construction.
